Lawrence Sanders, Sr.

GRAMMATEUS

Lawrence is the Director of Project Delivery for the Health and Social Services Business Domain for the State of Tennessee's Department of Finance and Administration. He leads the successful delivery of high-priority projects for Tennessee's Health and Social Services agencies (Departments of Health, Human Services, Children's Services, Mental Health & Substance Abuse Services, and Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities). Prior to joining the State of Tennessee, Lawrence served as the Project Management Office Director for the North Carolina Department of Commerce, where he spearheaded numerous modernization projects. His extensive background also includes 22 years in the telecommunications industry, with expertise in Systems Engineering, Program Management, Supply Chain Management, and New Product Introduction.

Lawrence's commitment to public service extends beyond his professional roles. From 2012 to 2015, he served on the Orange County Schools Board in North Carolina, holding the position of Vice Chair. Lawrence earned his Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering Technology from DeVry Institute of Technology, and a Master's Degree in Project Management from Keller Graduate School of Management. Lawrence has been certified as Project Management Professional (PMP) since 2001. He is also an alumnus of LEAD Tennessee’s 2023 Cohort.

Lawrence has a strong record of community engagement, having served in leadership roles on numerous boards and advisory councils, including, former Chair of Boys & Girls Clubs of Eastern Piedmont Board of Governors, former Board Chair of Boys & Girls Clubs of Chapel Hill, former Chair of the Alliance of Black Lucent Employees (Greensboro), and former Advisory Council Member of Organizing Against Racism. His dedication and achievements have been recognized with several prestigious awards, including, including the NC Association of Workforce Professionals President's Award, Tennessee Information Technology Professional Association's Collaboration Award, and Government Technology's 2022 Top 25 Doers, Dreamers and Drivers Award.

A native of Detroit, Michigan, Lawrence now resides in Franklin, Tennessee, with his wife, Sharon. They have two adult sons, Lawrence Jr. and Jaylin. In his free time, Lawrence enjoys traveling, attending jazz concerts, and occasionally acting/dancing in music videos.
